Your state’s rules

Federal law sets the floor. 6 states add their own overtime rule, and 8 require unused vacation to be paid when a job ends. Every state has a page with its rule, its source and a calculator set to it.

How the numbers are made

Cited, not paraphrased

Every rule links to the statute, regulation or agency page it comes from, with the date it was last checked. Where a rule was checked against excerpts rather than the full text, the page says so.

Worked in your browser

The calculators run on your device. Hours, rates and balances are not sent to a server or stored, and results keep working without a connection once the page has loaded.

Shown line by line

Results read like a pay stub: hours × rate on each line, overtime in red, and the rule that produced it. You can check every figure by hand. How we calculate.

Questions people ask

Are these calculators free?

Yes. Every calculator is free and needs no account or sign-up.

Is what I type sent anywhere?

Nothing you type is sent to a server while you calculate; the math runs in your browser. Your inputs are written into the page address so you can copy a link to a result. The privacy page explains what that means.

Where do the rules come from?

From the statutes, regulations and agency pages that set them. Every state rule links to its source and shows the date it was last checked.

Is this legal or tax advice?

No. The calculators apply published rules to the numbers you enter. For a dispute or a tax return, check with your state labor department, the IRS or a qualified professional.
